History of the College

Introduction :

Rampurhat College(Govt. Spons.), established in 1950, has traversed a long path warding off the challenges of time and put its mark in the history of higher education in the area. It is affiliated to the University of Burdwan . The College has three shifts-Morning , Day and Evening. Honours  & General subjects are taught in the day shift the morning shift only for the Arts general stream and the evening shift is exclusively for the Commerce , both Honours & General. The Post Graduate Course in Bengali on regular basis  has been started from the session 2014-15 and the Post Graduate Courses in English and Sanskrit on regular basis will be opened this year. It has already been accredited  by the NAAC  and is preparing itself for facing the NAAC team for the second cycle of assessment .

Because of its Geographical proximity to the famous pilgrimage centre, Tarapith, and for its booming mining industry and brisk business in the locality, Rampurhat is well connected to the capital city of Kolkata, to the North Bengal and even the smaller states of the North East. It is also now connected to the farthest  South of the country .

The college is situated in a pleasant and peaceful environment having an area of more than eleven acres . The Railway station is Rampurhat and it is only ten minutes walk from the college. The N.H-60 , bifurcating the town, is only one k.m. away and regular and frequent bus services are available facilitating the communication for the students and guardians alike. The beautification of the college campus is under process.

Though our college is one of the oldest colleges in the district, some persistent and nagging problems put a hindrance before it to develop its infrastructure required for smooth imparting of knowledge. Admittedly, most of the students are from the disadvantaged sections of society, who are in need of personal care and nourishment. But given the large number of students it has become almost impossible for the teachers to take care of them at a personal level sufficiently. Despite this many of the teachers encourage them to attend their classes regularly and take lessons from them seriously. This teacher-taught relation instills in them a kind of confidence which, we hope, will bear fruit in very near future.

Apart from academic activities our college has taken initiative under the leadership of our management for conserving energy by installing solar panels on the roof top of our main building.
